Check 1, 2, 3... An Interactive Workshop on How to Incorporate Emergency Checklists into Your Perioperative Simulation Scenarios
#8861 INTERPROFESSIONAL EDUCATION | Learner Level: Advanced
This immersive course is presented by a group of providers from Anesthesiology, Surgery, OBGYN-Maternal Fetal Medicine, and Nursing. Participants will have the opportunity to simulate and debrief scenarios both with and without emergency checklists, have a robust discussion of how best to introduce emergency checklists in the clinical world, and how to "take it home" and use simulation to "teach" checklists to other learners.
Learning Objectives
1. Identify scenarios where the use of an emergency checklist would be appropriate to facilitate optimal team performance during an emergency.
2. Describe how TeamSTEPPS(TM) concepts can be incorporated when utilizing emergency checklists.
3. Develop tangible scenarios for incorporating emergency checklists to bring home to their own institutions for use in medical simulation scenarios and/or clinical practice.
Course Director: Colleen Lee, RN, MS. Faculty: Nelli Fisher; James R Korndorffer Jr, MD, MHPE, FACS; Edward Kosik; Andrew Miller; Mikio Nihira, MD, MPH; David Young, MD.
Simulation on the Move: Making Longitudinal Simulation Work
#11498 INTERPROFESSIONAL EDUCATION | Learner Level: Advanced
Held at the Louisiana State University (LSU) Health New Orleans School of Medicine Learning Center and includes Sim Center Tour. Busses depart the Convention Center at 8:30 AM and return at 12:30 PM.
Effective teamwork is particularly important during patient transfers from one clinical micro-system to another, especially when that patient is critically ill. Incorporating high fidelity simulation into such transfer training presents unique logistical challenges that must be overcome. This Peri-Operative AG- and SIG-sponsored immersive course will help learners develop and participate in longitudinal simulation-based training exercises.
Learning Objectives
1. Define longitudinal simulation and its challenges related to implementation.
2. Compare and contrast effective and ineffective strategies for incorporating longitudinal simulation into simulation-based inter-professional team training programs.
3. Develop a framework for successfully implementing longitudinal simulation-based team training at their own institution.
Course Director: John Paige, MD. Faculty: Deborah Garbee; Vladimir Kiselov; Pierre Detiege; Vadym Rusnak.
*Courses are 3 contact hours, times listed include transportation time. Transportation included in $175 cost.
