For the position of: Director-at-Large

Hello SSH Membership:

It is an honor to have been nominated for At-Large Director of the SSH Board of Directors.

Here is why I believe I can add value to SSH Mission and Vision:

ADVOCACY: By providing faculty development opportunities within and external to my institutions, collaborating across the professional organizations of ASPE and INACSL as the SSH Chair for the Best Practices Workshop, developing sound assessments for simulation-based activities, I have advocated for the implementation of simulation throughout the curricula of all the disciplines with which I have worked: Medicine (UME & GME), PA, PT, SLP, and graduate and undergraduate nursing programs. I hope to create more opportunities for growth of simulation-based education, expand access to simulation throughout the world, particularly in middle and low-income countries.

RESEARCH: Adding to the knowledge base for simulation is essential to evolving best practices and developing new methods of simulation. Through my role with STORM and the peer-review process, I have reviewed numerous article submissions providing feedback to refine and enhance the publications. I seek avenues to support new researchers and encourage research-quality evaluation of programs.

EDUCATION: I have and will continue to present on topics critical to and supportive of best practices in healthcare simulation. As a paramedic and an educator, I bring a unique perspective for professional development being able to bring in the clinical side while also sharing the educational theory. I recently started a Presenter Mentor program for SimOps2025 to help build a community of practice for novice presenters accepted into the general program for SimOps 2025. Based on feedback received from the inaugural participants and facilitators, we expect to expand this mentorship model to IMSH and other programs.

CREDENTIALING: I strongly believe in the value of credentialing simulationists and centers because it enhances the profession and validates quality. I have encouraged members of my team at current and prior institutions to seek the appropriate certifications as either a CHSE or as a CHSOS or both, several have been successful. Simulation center accreditation should be as essential to healthcare programs as enrolling students to ensure quality delivery of simulation experiences. This will continue through my work on the CHSOS education team and through the Core Standards and Best Practices Workshop

MENTORSHIP: One of the best ways to expand the simulation community is through mentorship and support. I have developed teams and have always made myself available as a resource to anyone who would like to learn more about simulation, obtain suggestions about how to develop a simulation session or address a simulation need, or simply ask a question about educational theory.

I owe this nomination to many people who have helped me along my way from novice educator to a leader in healthcare simulation. Election to this role will allow me to help elevate the people who are just finding their passion in this dynamic and rewarding industry.
