Sections

The mission of the Anesthesiology Section is to foster communication and collaboration among the many people involved in anesthesia simulation, as well as between anesthesia and other disciplines in simulation. Areas of focus include: checklists, cognitive aids, and emergency manual implementation for critical events; ACGME Milestones; the creation of a national anesthesia core simulation curriculum; interprofessional education; leadership training and professional development.

Critical care simulation is varied and encompasses training rapid response teams, critical care nursing, multidisciplinary in situ ICU, difficult airway management, and team management in trauma/ emergency medicine. This Section is to provide support and ideas involving critical care simulation.

The Director’s SIG supports, advocates and disseminates the SSH’s mission to lead in facilitating excellence in (multi-specialty) healthcare education, practice, and research through simulation modalities. Additionally, the Director’s SIG will provide support, guidance and education to those who are new to simulation and are in the Director’s role at their Simulation Center.

The mission of the SSH Emergency Medicine Section is to provide an interprofessional resource to those involved in EM simulation to foster relationships and growth both within the specialty and as it relates to the larger medical simulation community.

The mission of the Hospital Based Simulation Programs Section is to facilitate networking and communication between multidisciplinary hospital-based simulation education programs to improve patient safety, staff performance, and simulation sustainability.

The mission of the SSH Nursing Section is to support healthcare simulation through networking, education, and research among those in nursing, and through collaboration with the interprofessional simulation community.

The mission of the OB/GYN Special Interest Group is: to create high-quality simulation content within our specialty by providing a platform for exchange of ideas, networking with colleagues, and establishing research collaboration among its members; and, to create and share high quality inter-professional simulation content that advances patient safety within Women’s Health by providing a platform for exchange of ideas, networking, and research collaboration among the international simulation community.

The Pediatric Section exists to continue relationship with simulation industry partners to improve simulation technology for pediatric specific areas, and work to improve opportunities for research and scholarship dissemination for pediatric simulationists.

The mission of the Simulation Operations and Technology Section is to foster a community that openly contributes and shares technical knowledge and technology wisdom in the medical simulation world.

The purpose of the SP Special Interest Group is to promote, educate, and support SP methodology in all types of simulation supporting the goals of SSH in healthcare education, assessment, and research. The term “SP” can refer to “standardized patient”, “simulated patient” or “simulated participant”. “Simulated participant” is the most accurate and inclusive term, as SPs can play a variety of roles in addition to patient, ie family member, team member, etc.

The mission of the Virtual Simulation Section is to promote the use of serious games and virtual environments in healthcare education.
