The Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator

 

The Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator® (CHSE®) certification has been developed as a service to the healthcare simulation community.  The CHSE® certification is intended for individuals who perform healthcare simulation in the educator role without restriction to: 

  • Simulation Modality
  • Setting (locations where simulation takes place)
  • Geographic Location
  • Learner Population
  • Function (e.g. teaching, assessment)
  • Profession

The candidate handbook is included in the Resource section below. It is highly recommended all candidates read this handbook before submitting an application.

Certification Process

1Determine Eligibility

An applicant should determine if they are eligible to apply for a CHSE prior to submitting their application.

2Submit Application

Applications for CHSE are submitted through our exam vendor’s candidate management system (CMS).

3Prepare for Exam

Applicants should review all available resources to prepare for the CHSE exam.

4Complete Exam

The exam has a time limit of 2 hours and has 115 questions. There are two options for taking the exam.

5Recognition

Those who successfully pass the CHSE Exam are encouraged to use the credential during the time they are currently certified.

6Renewal

The credential is valid for a period for three years. Those who hold the credential must either recertify or renew before expiration.

Consistent with its mission, SSH developed the certification process for educators focused on healthcare simulation. This program has been developed over a number of years with the input of many individuals representing a wide variety of backgrounds and experience in healthcare simulation. Individuals from the international healthcare simulation community including other simulation societies contributed to the success of CHSE® Certification. SSH thanks everyone who has participated in the development of CHSE® Certification.

Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator®, CHSE®, and the CHSE® logo are all trademarks of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. A currently certified CHSE® may use the CHSE® title as prescribed in the CHSE® handbook. All other uses are forbidden without the express written consent of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.
