SSH's Council for Accreditation of Healthcare Simulation Programs currently offers two types of Mid-Cycle Accreditation. (IN ORDER TO APPLY FOR MID-CYCLE, your program MUST be currently Accredited by SSH):
MID-CYCLE ADDITIONAL AREA - The first is for currently SSH Accredited Programs that would like to become accredited in additional areas.
MID-CYCLE ADDITIONAL SITE - The second is for currently SSH Accredited Programs who meet the requirements of being a Multisite Program. Programs can apply for Mid-Cycle if they are currently Fully Accredited, or Provisionally Accredited.
- In order for a program to apply for Full Mid Cycle Additional Site, the program must currently be accredited in SSH Full Accreditation, and the site seeking mid-cycle must demonstrate the two years of data for that site(s).
- In order for a program to apply for Provisional Mid Cycle Additional Site, the program must currently be accredited in SSH Provisional Accreditation.
The due date for Mid-Cycle applications is February 15 annually. This is only available for programs that are already SSH Accredited. If your program is interested in applying for this, we strongly encourage you to reach out to accreditation@ssih.org to get started!
Is it Right for Your Program
As part of your review, you should ask whether it is better to either wait for the normal Full Re-accreditation process at the end of the five-year cycle, or re-apply early for Re-accreditation and include the additional areas or sites as part of that application. Costs, and costs savings, associated with applying for Mid-Cycle are noted below. Please contact us if you have any questions. We want to work with you to ensure that you are taking the right steps for your program.
Accreditation Standards
The 2021 versions of the Accreditation Standards are required as of the July 15, 2012 application submission date. There remain the seven areas for accreditation. All must apply for Core, the remaining areas are optional (must apply for at least one of Assessment, Research, Teaching/Education, or Human Simulation). All standards and evidence within each area that a Program applies to become accredited are required. If you have any questions, please email accreditation@ssih.org. It is strongly recommended that the companion documents be downloaded and reviewed first, they include the standards and criteria.
There are often questions about what is meant by each item in the Accreditation Standards. The Accreditation Committee has put together the following companion documents to help applicant programs understand the intent and concept of the Standards in each area. These are not prescriptive and are intended to help the applicant programs to gain insight into how their own program demonstrates the standards, and what documentation might be needed to support the standard.
