To my colleagues and friends in the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, I am asking for your support as Secretary on the Board of Directors. I have a deep-rooted belief that we can achieve more through unification of this multifaceted field than we can apart. My leadership service to the Society has provided the opportunity to develop the skills necessary to support the organization from multiple perspectives, which, provides a unique lens into the impact SSH has across the healthcare simulation community.
I am interested in supporting the individual voices that make this organization successful, and I believe my background uniquely equips me to serve you in this role. Through organizational growth, times of crisis, and program realignments, my commitment to motivating individuals to achieve their greatest potential has never wavered. My leadership experiences have provided me with the ability to remain a steadying force in the face of what may remain ahead.
Early in my career as a non-clinical member of the Society, I worried I would never fully grasp the complexity of this field or find my place within the healthcare simulation community. One of those concerns remains true. None of us can fully comprehend the limitless impact healthcare simulation can have on the evolving needs of patient care. Conversely, I quickly discovered that SSH is a community built on inclusion and collaboration. Physicians, nurses, researchers, administrators, and technical professionals all contributed to the welcoming spirit that shaped my career. This is the spirit I will continue to foster if given the opportunity to serve on the Board of Directors.
Over the next three years, I remain focused on advocacy, credentialing, and organizational sustainability. Supporting the ongoing efforts to unify the global healthcare simulation community is a major priority. The Commission for International Simulation Accreditation is an integral piece of the puzzle of global partnership. This initiative I have supported helps reduce barriers for international partners seeking program accreditation and recognition. This work developed transformational avenues with five international partners that represent budding relationships that I intend to foster into new engagement opportunities, increasing the global expansion of accreditation standards.
Credentialing provides a foundation for individual expertise and institutional best practices and my service record reflects my commitment to its relevance. The development of the CHSOS-A, representing advancement for leaders in the field of simulation operations, and the creation of the Human Simulation accreditation standards are examples of what is possible with strong leadership and strategic initiatives. These efforts provide a pathway of continued development for ongoing efforts to streamline accreditation standards and support additional research on the return on investment of credentialed programs.
Finally, strong organizations require intentional leadership focused on sustainability and growth. I have been fortunate to learn from exceptional mentors throughout my career, and I remain committed to developing inclusive leadership pathways within SSH. By connecting passionate members with experienced leaders, we can continue building a strong and thriving future for our Society.
