Simulation has taught me lessons that go well beyond educational methodology. It has reinforced the importance of curiosity, reflection, advocacy, and creating environments where people feel comfortable speaking up, asking questions, and continuing to learn. It has reminded me that progress rarely happens perfectly the first time, that silence can create space for deeper reflection, and that humility, openness, and grace are essential to meaningful growth and collaboration. These lessons continue to shape how I engage with others, how I approach leadership, and how I strive to support environments where people feel connected, respected, genuinely heard, and able to contribute authentically.
My interest in serving as SSH President-Elect is rooted in a deep belief in this community and in the role healthcare simulation plays in advancing safer, higher-quality patient care through the development of individuals, teams, and systems. I care deeply about supporting the people who make this work possible, and fostering opportunities for mentorship, leadership development, collaboration, innovation, and connection across all career stages and professional backgrounds.
Through my service on the Board of Directors, the development and implementation of the ASCEND program, and leadership of the Simulation-Grounded Competency-Based Education Task Force, I have remained committed to creating opportunities that support both the advancement of the field and the growth of the individuals within it. One of the most inspiring aspects of this work has been witnessing the generosity of this community: experienced leaders investing in emerging professionals, colleagues supporting one another across disciplines, and members continually showing up to advance healthcare simulation together.
Looking ahead, my vision for SSH over the next three years is grounded in thoughtful growth, sustainability, and continued investment in the people and relationships that strengthen our community. I believe SSH has an important opportunity to continue advancing healthcare simulation through advocacy, research, innovation, education, and collaboration while remaining grounded in the community and shared purpose that define us. As SSH continues to grow, we face both opportunities and responsibilities. One of our greatest strengths has always been the sense of connection, generosity, and belonging within this community. Growth brings incredible opportunities to expand perspectives, strengthen global collaboration, and welcome new voices and experiences into the Society. At the same time, we must be intentional about preserving the sense of community that makes SSH feel like a professional home for so many members.
I look forward to continuing to learn from, contribute to, and grow alongside this remarkable community, and I remain committed to serving in ways that best support SSH, its members, and the future of healthcare simulation. I am deeply grateful for this community and for the shared sense of purpose, collaboration, and commitment that continue to define SSH at its best.
