FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HARRISON, OHIO (Aug. 1, 2024) — The Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH) and the Sociedad Mexicana de Simulación en Ciencias de la Salud (SOMESICS) proudly announce the launch of a new Accreditation agreement made possible through the Commission for International Simulation Accreditation (CISA).
This historic partnership aims to make SSH’s gold-standard accreditation more accessible globally and fuel the organization’s continued, meteoric relationship and standards growth with new programs.
What is CISA?
CISA is a new initiative that allows SSH to partner with International Affiliate Organizations (IAOs) to provide dual accreditation. This collaboration builds on SSH's more than 16 years of experience in refining accreditation standards. IAOs, like SOMESICS, will facilitate regional programs in receiving and reviewing dual accreditation, addressing barriers such as language, costs, and cultural differences.
Significance of the Agreement
The CISA initiative is designed to overcome barriers that limit international program participation in accreditation. By allowing these barriers to be managed at a regional level, CISA ensures that more programs can achieve the highest standards in simulation-based education. This agreement aligns with SSH's strategic goals of Advocacy, Credentialing, and Organizational Sustainability & Growth, and strengthens the partnership between SSH and its global affiliates.
Advantages for International Societies
CISA offers international simulation societies the opportunity to become accrediting bodies through SSH. In its support, SSH provides a well-established infrastructure, expertise in process design, and training for new reviewers, ensuring that international programs can develop their accreditation processes. This collaboration is expected to enhance the quality and recognition of healthcare simulation programs worldwide.
Currently, international programs make up 15 percent of SSH’s 250+ total accredited programs. This means SSH’s agreement with SOMESICS is a significant step forward as it creates a pathway for programs in Mexico and Central America to address and overcome specific barriers in order to achieve SSH Accreditation.
The agreement also provides a model for other parts of the world.
This event marks the beginning of a new era in simulation-based healthcare education, offering new opportunities for programs to gain recognition for their excellence in patient care and safety.
"We want to recognize the efforts of the SSH Accreditation Council,” said SSH Accreditation Council Chair Jack Jaeger, MSN Ed, RN, CCRN, CHSE. “Their exhaustive efforts over the last 11 months to make this vision happen is truly amazing. This agreement and new model of business is a landmark event as it represents the start of a new age in Program Accreditation for SSH, SOMESICS, and the entire healthcare simulation space.
“The SSH Accreditation Council thanks the SSH Board of Directors for their unwavering support in enhancing global healthcare education through simulation.”
