Funds raised support research grants, SimVentors Awards, Beverlee Anderson Education Scholarships, Chad Epps Lecture Endowment
HARRISON, (OHIO) -- The Society for Simulation in Healthcare’s (SSH) historic "Dollar-for-Dollar" fundraising challenge raised $127,580 in three weeks making the initiative the most successful fundraising campaign on record. A total of $63,780 was raised through individual and corporate donations with SSH matching those contributions dollar-for-dollar.
“I am proud of the work the SSH team and its members dedicated to this successful initiative,” said SSH Development Board Chair Jennifer Arnold, MD, MSc, who serves as executive director for Immersive Design Systems and medical director of the skeletal health center at Boston Children’s Hospital. “The dollars raised in this campaign through the generous contributions of individual donors as well as the corporate roundtable member companies will serve the industry at its highest level.”
The campaign kicked off August 25 and ran through September 18, the last day of Healthcare Simulation Week (Sept. 14-18). The campaign included two funding streams; corporate round table and individual donations.
Funds raised will support research, innovation and scholarships. Since 2014, SSH has awarded more than $170,000 to 30 researchers to help answer rapidly emerging questions in the field of healthcare simulation. The SimVentors Showcase at IMSH 2027 has received a record high 85 entries, which provides healthcare simulation innovators a spotlight for showcasing emerging technology. Winners receive monetary awards that serve as a vital catalyst in transforming ideas from demonstrations into marketable products, benefiting the entire healthcare simulation community. Since 2011, 34 individuals have received the Beverlee Anderson Education Scholarship to attend IMSH. For IMSH 2027, two international and three national scholarships have already been awarded.
“The “dollar-for-dollar” campaign is the most successful fundraising initiative for the SSH Fund to date,” said SSH President Aaron Calhoun, MD, FSSH, “It is a true testament to the dedication and commitment of the entire simulation community. Thanks to each of you for your contributions. Your donations have made the field stronger by supporting research, innovation and education, which in turn will help us give our healthcare technicians, nurses, and doctors the training they need to be as prepared as possible when their patients need them the most.”
Donations to the SSH Fund will continue through December. To donate, go to sshfund.org. Donations are tax deductible and can be made with credit card or check.
