May President's Message: Defining Excellence in Simulation Programs, 2nd Edition, now available!

In April, many of us celebrated Interprofessional Healthcare Month, where we acknowledged the National Academies of Practice Proclamation that “healthcare clinicians collaborating in an interprofessional team model of service enhances not only coordination, but safe, effective, and high-quality healthcare.”

I would contend that interprofessional healthcare teams extend beyond healthcare clinicians to all the individuals who support the delivery of care, which include our simulation-based education teams. It is because of the diversity of professionals within our organization that allow for the collision and intersection of unique expertise which lead to new ideas, innovations, and partnerships.

The most recent product of our interprofessional society is the long-awaited Society for Simulation in Healthcare Textbook, Defining Excellence in Simulation Programs, 2nd Edition, currently available for preorder here or on Amazon. This textbook was a true collaboration of experts from diverse professions to include clinicians, simulation operations specialists, simulated patients, and administrators, as well as educators, architects, developers, engineers … the list goes on and on. I'm also happy to report that all net proceeds received from the publisher go to SSH to invest in future publications.

Another amazing product of interprofessional collaboration is our upcoming Women in Leadership Symposium, May 25, 2022. This event originally was developed in partnership with the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning and the Association for SP Educators. Please consider registering for this incredible, inclusive event that will focus on civility, safety, and advocacy strategies to promote resiliency.

I hope that we all continue to appreciate how unique and special the Society for Simulation in Healthcare is as a safe place for interprofessional collaboration without hierarchy, judgement, or silos.  Please continue the great interprofessional work that you are doing each day, as change agents, within your organization.
