Of all the reasons people give for not pursuing certification, the most common one is not cost, it is not time, and it is not the exam itself. It is this: "I'm not sure I'm ready yet."
That is the single most avoidable barrier in healthcare simulation certification — and it keeps talented, qualified professionals from credentials they have already earned the right to pursue.
Eligibility for the CHSE requires three things. A current healthcare license, certification, or recognized healthcare credential. Two years of experience in healthcare simulation within the last five years, with at least 50% of your professional time spent in simulation-related activities. And a minimum of 500 hours of experience in healthcare simulation education within the last five years.
That is it.

Ready to Find Out If You Qualify?
Review the full eligibility requirements and begin your application for the CHSE or CHSOS. The application walks you through each requirement step by step — and most qualified professionals are already there.
There is no minimum education requirement beyond your existing healthcare credential. There is no required course, no mandatory SSH membership, and no prerequisite certification. If you meet those three conditions, you are eligible to apply for the CHSE.
The CHSOS follows a similar structure, designed for simulation operations specialists. Eligibility requirements reflect the operational nature of that role. Visit ssih.org/chsos for the specific criteria.
The phrase "I'm not ready" usually translates to "I haven't started." And starting is simpler than most people expect. The application itself walks you through each requirement step by step. SSH's prep resources — cohort programs, blueprint review courses, and practice materials — exist to help you bridge any gaps you identify along the way.
You have likely been building toward this credential for years without knowing it. The question is whether you take the step to make it official.
Check your eligibility and review the full application process at ssih.org/chse or ssih.org/chsos.
