It’s hard to believe that two months have passed since IMSH 2026 in San Antonio! One of the most common questions we are asked both at IMSH and immediately following by our members is “How can I stay involved with SSH throughout the year?”
One of the best ways to do this is to join our SSH Sections, Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and Affinity Groups! Sections and Special Interest Groups are open to SSH members only, however Affinity Groups can be joined by anyone with a free account on our website.
So many good things are coming out of work being done be these groups. For example, in February, the Latent Safety Threat Position and Companion document was published.
The document represents a collaborate effort by the Hospital Based Simulation Programs Section, Patient Safety and Simulation Collaborative Affinity Group and the In Situ and Mobile Outreach Simulation Affinity Group.
The workgroup conducted a comprehensive literature review and surveyed SSH members to better understand current practices and gaps. Through iterative drafting and expert consensus, the team developed an evidence-informed framework that reflects both research and frontline experience. Both the final position statement and companion document underwent internal review, alignment with SSH strategic priorities, and approval by the SSH Board of Directors.
Together, these documents mark an important step toward advancing simulation-based systems improvement and elevating patient safety practices across healthcare organizations worldwide. This is just one example of how to get involved and be a part of something big for our community!
